Alleged Bondi Beach Gunmen Operated Independently and Did Not Preparation in the Philippines, Investigators State.

The two suspected gunmen responsible for the fatal attack at a Hanukkah gathering on Bondi Beach, resulting in 15 lives, are believed to have acted alone, according to Australian law enforcement.

Investigators also confirmed that Sajid Akram, 50, and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram travelled to the Philippines on 1 November. Their itinerary included arriving in the capital Manila before traveling onward on the day of arrival to Davao City. The duo flew back to Sydney on 29 November.

No Evidence of Planning During Stay

Authorities assert the duo did not receive any form of attack-related instruction or "organizing" during their time in the Philippines. Initial findings from Philippine authorities suggest they "hardly ventured out of" their accommodation.

The attack—declared Australia's deadliest mass shooting since 1996—has been officially declared a terrorist incident.

"We are actively examining the material," the commissioner stated, adding that initial reviews show that "the two men are alleged to have operated independently."

National law enforcement Commissioner Krissy Barrett told reporters on Tuesday that security camera video tracking the alleged gunmen's activities in the Philippines had been provided to domestic authorities.

"Our investigation shows little to no indication to indicate these suspects were members of a larger network, or were acting on orders from external parties to carry out an attack," Commissioner Barrett emphasized.

Yet, the pair were likewise not necessarily in the Philippines as tourists, she added. She emphasized that, since the inquiry is continuing, additional details might emerge.
